“Managing Exam Anxiety in children”

“Calmness is the cradle of power.”
      — Josiah Gilbert Holland

It is normal to feel a little nervous and stressed before exams, and a little nervous anticipation can help students do better in the exam, but when this stress is so intense, it results in exam anxiety. Many students suffer because of this, and it also affects their exam preparation and performance. Exams are indeed stressful not just for students but also for their parents.

To address this issue to help students and their parents to cope with it, Samsara-The World Academy organized an online counselling session on “Managing Exam Anxiety in children” for the parents of IX to XII graders on 11th February 2022.

The school counsellor, Ms Megha Sarin, Psychologist, told them the various ways to deal with exam anxiety. She advised the parents to stay calm around their kids and focus more on efforts than the result. She said that parents should set healthy boundaries and ensure their children get enough sleep and nutritious food.
Counsellor Ma’am suggested that parents can help their children by providing a positive environment and by being emotionally available. She also advised the parents to ensure that their concern doesn’t pressurise the students.
It was an informative session that taught the parents to take exams as a challenge and not as stressful.
