Building a Culture of Joyful Reading in School

Our English facilitators Ms Reema Sharma, Ms Aparna Tiwari, Ms Shipra Garg and Ms Alisha Sinha  attended a webinar on  20th, September 2021 on the topic 'Building a Culture of Joyful Reading in School' - a  launch of the CBSE Reading Mission 2021-2023. It is a two-year initiative to promote Reading Literacy among young learners. It was conducted by CBSE, in association with Pratham Book Story Weaver and Central Square Foundation.

The resource person Ms. Purvi Shah elucidated the importance of reading and interpreted the objectives of the CBSE Reading Mission. Under this reading mission, teachers will have to access the repository of open license, high-quality English and Hindi literature.
 Dr. Joseph Emmanuel, Director (Academics), CBSE, welcomed the panelists.  He informed that the Reading Mission has grade-appropriate storybooks and various activities structured around these books.
In the second part of the segment, Mr. R. Sriram, Chairperson and Dr Rukmini Banerji,  CEO of Pratham Books expressed their thoughts about the importance of reading books as it nurtures lifelong habits to help children to grow emotionally balanced.
Prof. Shailaja Menon of Azim Premji University gave insightful knowledge to adopt storybooks to immerse children in the classroom. The speakers furthermore told that one should engage children in storybooks to improve their imagination, to evoke curiosity and to develop critical thinking.

The final segment of the launch was led by Ms. Rohini Vij, who is a professional storyteller. She emphasised  that how effectively we can use storytelling as a pedagogy tool. It was indeed an insightful session for all the educators
